Green Celebrities

Here you'll find a list of green celebrities who use their star power to help protect the planet. Their individual concerns and subsequent contributions differ, but what they all have in common is their ability to reach millions of star struck fans , emphasizing the importance of green living.

Cameron Diaz, in addition to belonging to several environmental charities, hosted the MTV reality show " Eco Trippin", attended Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth’ training Seminar, and along with William Mcdonough wrote the forward to The Green Book where she was also a celebrity contributor. Other Green celebrities that contributed to the book include Jennifer Aniston, Ellen Degeneres, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Will Ferrell, Tyra Banks, Tiki Barber, Justin Timberlake, Dale Earnhardt JR. and Robert Redford.

Leonardo DiCaprio may be one of the most active and dedicated green celebrities of the day. His passion for protecting biodiversity and halting global warming is emphatically expressed throughout his website as well as his documentaries, and the charities he supports. In February 2008,DiCaprio was Invited by Scotland’s Green Party to speak before parliament on the issue of Global Warming.


Harrison Ford has been a model environmentalist for decades. Ford supports numerous charities and serves as a board member of Conservation International and the E.O Wilson Biodiversity Foundation. In 2002 Harrison Ford received the Global Environmental Citizen Award of Harvard Medical School. In addition to environmental conservation, Harrison Ford is involved with animal and human rights organizations, as well as abuse prevention education; all of which are issues that both directly and indirectly concern ecological sustainability.



Al Gore is not actually a celebrity per se, or at least didn’t intend to be, but has certainly developed a broad fan base from his remarkable environmental work. Al Gore is the unusual combination of politician and passionate environmentalist whose work has effectively brought the environmental crisis to the political forefront and to the attention of the world via his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” and through his book The Earth in Balance



Darryl Hannah encourages the environmental movement by example and personal activism; living in an energy efficient solar powered house, driving a car powered on biodeisel fuel( in her case recycled French fry oil) and growing her own organic vegetables. In addition she has spoken out publicly and participated in protests concerning environmental issues, launched her own green website and created a personal video blog about green living which you can watch below:









Woody Harrelson is a long time environmentalist and in addition to supporting numerous charities is the founder of Voice Yourself, a website dedicated to environmental advocacy. He states “I see the ongoing destruction of all that is natural and want to make a difference. Our mission at Voice Yourself is to connect you with others, to share information about alternatives biodiesel, sustainable clothing companies and to get clean and natural cleansers into your hands and homes this is only the beginning.” Harrelson has an artistically executed video poem on his website that is worth a view.



Angelina Jolie focuses her efforts on women and children living in poverty stricken developing countries. She is a passionate human rights advocate but her humanitarian work indirectly benefits the environment. Truly improving the quality of human lives necessarily involves improving the quality of and protecting their surroundings. Along with Brad Pitt, Jolie has contributed millions to charities, reportedly 1/3 of her income. Angelina has recently given 5 million USD to found a wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia.



Brad Pitt seems to be focused more on the green arena than his other half but he is nevertheless concerned with humanitarian issues. This is apparent through his project, Make It Right, which focuses on rebuilding New Orleans using intelligent planning and energy efficient architecture. As for his individual contribution Pitt conserves resources as much as he can, often seen riding a bike in lieu of a car. He is involved with Global Green, Solar Neighbors Program, and dozens of other charities that span across numerous issues.



Sting and his wife Trudie are dedicated eco-activists who founded the The Rain Forest Foundation in the 80’s. Their charity focuses on halting rain forest destruction by working to protect the people who call the forests home. In January of 2008 The Rain Forest Foundation released an online game titled Congo Jones Congo Jones. The game teaches the importance of rain forest protection while providing entertainment at the same time.

Martha Stewart offers a wealth of green tips on her show on just about a daily basis as well as through her magazine. Martha Stewart spreads the message of healthy living and sustainability to millions of viewers. She also supports animal rights and charities that work toward human well being and sustainability such as Heifer International. Martha also contributed her own personal tips on going green in The Green Book.





This list is by no means exhaustive-and there are many other green celebrities that use their fame and fortune for a good cause.But remember that green celebrities are still only a handful of millions of other people who aren't in the celebrity spotlight who are equally effective and just as important when it comes to achieving a sustainable world.
